Earlier this year, we found out that Activision will launch Warzone 2 before the year ends. At the time, most thought nothing more of it than an attempt to save face. After all, Activision Blizzard fell flat on its face with last year’s Call of Duty: Vanguard. So, it wouldn’t surprise us if Activision reneged on its initial promise and pushed Warzone 2 back to 2023. But, while that option is still on the table, the controversial publisher just doubled down on releasing Warzone 2 this year. According to Activision’s Q2 FY23 earnings release, Warzone 2 is still coming out later this year.
♬ original sound - Xfire - Xfire As revealed in the same release, Activision Blizzard has its hands full with multiple releases coming in the next few months. The main highlight is the next mainline Call of Duty game, which comes out on October 28. Activision also dropped the name of the “new Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 experience” alongside other upcoming releases such as Overwatch 2, World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic. On top of committing to a 2022 release, Activision also revealed that Warzone 2 will be “tightly integrated with the premium game” and “will launch as an extension of the Modern Warfare universe later this year.” In other Call of Duty news, Activision still hasn’t confirmed when the open beta for Modern Warfare 2 will start. Leaks suggest that the open beta will run from September 15-19 on the PlayStation followed by another all-platform test on September 22-26.
