Are the Battlefield 2042 Specialists the Same as Classes?
Battlefield 2042 will change a lot about the standard Battlefield formula. However, while the removal of the single-player campaign is a big deal, the biggest has to be DICE introducing specialists. You could think of them as the operators in Rainbow Six Siege. Each has a different name and backstory with unique gadgets, as well as abilities. However, the Battlefield 2042 specialists are far more flexible because you can use any weapon that you have already unlocked. Whereas in previous years Battlefield games only had the Assault and Recon classes, among others, DICE took those archetypes and put a more modern spin to each one in Battlefield 2042. Speaking of changes, Battlefield 2042 will also introduce 10 unique gadgets that players can pair with any weapon. Battlefield 2042 will also let players customize their gun attachments while on the move. This means that you can switch to long-range optics to take down opponents from afar, then switch to something better suited for close-range combat once you’re on the move. This kind of extensive loadout decision-making is a first for a Battlefield game.
How Many Battlefield 2042 Specialists Are There?
According to DICE and EA, Battlefield 2042 will have 10 specialists at launch. The game will also see one new specialist added each season for a total of 14 specialists in a span of 4 seasons in 1 year.
Who are the Battlefield 2042 Specialists?
Webster Mackay
Birthplace: Canada Class: Assault Specialty: Grappling Hook Trait: Nimble DICE describes the Canadian-born specialist as an “ex-military, lone-wolf survivalist”. He is based on the Assault class and has pledged his allegiance to the survivalist group, Non-Patriated. He has access to the Grappling Hook. This lets him zip in and out of combat, which fits in well with the Nimble trait that lets him aim down sights without suffering from a movement penalty.
Maria Falck
Birthplace: Germany Class: Support Specialty: S21 Syrette Pistol Trait: Combat Surgeon Maria Falk is Battlefield 2042’s version of the Support. This German medic is searching for her son, David, who she suspects has allied with the numerous Non-Pat groups all over Earth. Her Speciality, Syrette Pistol, is a gun that does damage to enemies and heals allied units. She can also revive downed allies straight to full health using her Combat Surgeon trait.
Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky
Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky Birthplace: Russia Class: Engineer Specialty: SG-36 Sentry Gun Trait: Sentry Operator Boris is an Engineer from Russia that’s described by DICE as “self-motivated and self-fulfilling. He is currently fighting for the Task Force where his specialty, SG-36 Sentry System, lets him drop an automated turret that attacks enemy targets on sight whenever they come into range. He can also manually control which enemy the turret is attacking using the Sentry Operator trait.
Wikus “Casper” Van Daele
Birthplace: South Africa Class: Recon Specialty: OV-P Recon Drone Trait: Movement Sensor Casper is described as an “introverted loner” who serves as the Task Force’s “unflappable, calm presence”. His Speciality, OV-P Recon Drone, allows him to spot and mark targets from far away or use an EMP blast to disorient them. The Movement Sensor trait allows Casper to spot all approaching enemies.
Are More Battlefield 2042 Specialists Coming?
So far, DICE has revealed only 4 out of the 10 expected Battlefield 2042 specialists. As we’ve mentioned earlier, Battlefield 2042 will have 10 specialists at launch. We can expect to hear more about the other 6 specialists at EA Play Live 2021 and in the weeks leading up to the game’s launch on October 22.
