It wasn’t until YouTube commissioned Cobra Kai in 2018, which was later picked up by Netflix in 2020, that interest in the series among older and younger audiences soared. However, it appears that the still-ongoing Cobra Kai series is about to spawn its own set of spin-offs in the future.

Is there a Cobra Kai or Karate Kid spin-off in the works?

— Jon Hurwitz (@jonhurwitz) September 16, 2021 According to Cobra Kai’s creator, Jon Hurwitz, discussions are ongoing about potential spin-off shows set “inside and outside of the Miyagiverse.” In another tweet, the showrunner added that some ideas are “further along than others”. Unfortunately, Hurwitz refuses to “spoil anything”, which is definitely understandable. Cobra Kai has definitely come as a welcome surprise. The series, which is set 30 years following the events of 1984’s The Karate Kid, initially centered around the story of William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence after he goes from a spoiled rich kid in high school to falling on hard times as an adult. On the other hand, Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso is now a successful businessman who runs multiple car dealerships in the area that the two of them grew up in. After a series of unlikely events, they end up meeting each other to reignite their childhood feud, which even extends to their respective families and children. With three successful seasons already in the books, Season 4 of Cobra Kai will kick off in December 2021 and will see the two former rivals team up against a familiar foe. Also, Season 5 is already confirmed, so it appears that fans can look forward to more Cobra Kai for at least the next year or two. Having said that, it’ll be interesting to see how future spin-off series (and maybe even films) would work. Cobra Kai has expanded on the original trilogy’s lore far more than anyone ever expected. In addition to bringing in legacy characters, the Netflix Original series has introduced younger characters. The next generation of martial artists could theoretically anchor their own spin-offs. Future spin-offs could also explore the life of Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi. There’s also tons of potential in a story set before the events of Cobra Kai.
