We know that a clash between Black Adam and Superman is inevitable as Johnson himself has teased it in several interviews and TV appearances. Fans are also eager to know if the rivalry between Teth-Adam and Billy Batson will make it to the big screen. Well, Dwayne Johnson may very well be the Tom Holland of DCEU in that he is the source of all the information fans need. Johnson confirms that the clash between Black Adam and Shazam! is “gonna happen.” In an interview, Johnson mentions “I said, we can’t do it like this. We have to respect Shazam and his origin story, that has to be its own movie. Respect Black Adam, it has to be its own movie. Build up and then we can do this. The crossovers, they’re going to happen.”
I’m screaming so much as a fan. I’m crying of happiness rn. pic.twitter.com/zq8jErQir9 — AJ 🏳️🌈 | #FlashPack (@AjepArts) October 14, 2022 For context, when the Shazam! movie was conceptualized in 2006, Dwayne Johnson was tapped to play as Black Adam. The original plan was to have Teth-Adam be the villain in the story. Fast forward to 2017, Johnson met with DC’s Geoff Johns to discuss his role and it was decided that the movie would be split into Shazam! and Black Adam. The intention was for the superhero and anti-hero to clash sometime in the future after establishing their respective origin stories first. Johnson reportedly fought hard to have a stand-alone film for Black Adam. For the actor, it would have been fine for Shazam! to have Black Adam in one movie but not for the anti-hero. If both appeared in the same movie, it would have meant a lesser role for Johnson as more attention would be focused on Zachary Levi’s Shazam. Now that Johnson’s Teth-Adam gets his origins story movie, the next part will be to reunite the rivals. The pair may be on a collision course thanks to Black Adam’s nature as a brutal metahuman who has no qualms about killing. Billy Batson on the other hand is still learning the ropes of becoming a superhero. However, the showdown may have to wait a while as Billy Batson is set to take on the daughters of Atlas in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The movie has been pushed back to March 2023. Black Adam is also set to take on Superman as teased by The Rock. It would be within the realm of possibility that a Black Adam sequel will feature both Superman and Shazam trying to stop the anti-hero’s rampage. DC could also opt to have a Justice League sequel where the superheroes recruit Shazam in order to stop Black Adam. Whichever path DC takes with Black Adam, having him clash with Superman and Shazam would surely get fans excited. Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022.
