Of course, it’s safe to say that it will be available on the PlayStation 5 (no word yet on a PS4 release). However, eagle-eyed fans noticed one very small but important detail in a new trailer from PlayStation Brasil that suggests that it will come to the PC.
Is The Final Fantasy XVI PC Version Confirmed?
Final Fantasy XVI was confirmed at Sony’s September 2020 showcase, otherwise known as State of Play. Since then, we haven’t really heard much about the game. Instead, Square Enix seems heavily focused on the Final Fantasy VII universe for now, as well as their MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV. However, that doesn’t mean that they’ve forgotten all about it. For starters, a different team is working on Final Fantasy XVI. With that said, one thing that stood out immediately about Final Fantasy 16 is that the initial trailer alluded to the game releasing on the PC before Sony decided to reupload the video after apparently fixing it. However, in the new video uploaded by PlayStation Brasil, it seems like a PC version of Final Fantasy XVI is imminent. The trailer, as shown above, talks about 4 PlayStation-exclusive titles. This includes Deathloop, Godfall, and GhostWire: Tokyo, a swell as Final Fantasy XVI. But, of the four, only Final Fantasy XVI hasn’t been confirmed to release on the PC yet. According to a couple of eagle-eyed observers though, it seems that it’s only a matter of time before the PC release of the upcoming mainline installment in the Final Fantasy franchise is confirmed. You’ll find proof of this if you pay close attention to the video just as the 4 game icons pop up. You’ll notice that there’s a text there that says “exclusivos para o console PlayStation 5*”. Then, at the bottom of the same page is a disclaimer written in Portuguese, which, if translated, will basically say that Fantasy XVI will not be available on other platforms for a “limited time” after it releases on the PlayStation 5. So, based on this trailer and observation, fans can expect Final Fantasy XVI on the PC - eventually.
What’s Next for the Final Fantasy Franchise?
All eyes are currently on Square Enix. In particular, on their numerous projects set in the Final Fantasy VII universe. In addition to the Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, which they haven’t confirmed the release date yet, Square Enix is working on at least three titles set in the same universe. The biggest of the three is the PS5-exclusive expansion, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This all-new campaign featuring Yuffie Kirasagi will also come with enhancements made to the Final Fantasy VII Remake for the PS5. The other two were revealed by surprise and are exclusive to mobile platforms. The first is Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, which is essentially a battle royale title. It’s set years before the events of Final Fantasy VII. Meanwhile, the other title, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis, is similar to the Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition and will compile all the media content based on the Final Fantasy VII universe.
