Those who are wishing for a Godzilla vs. Kong follow-up can celebrate now that Legendary Entertainment has an update for the untitled continuation. According to the studio, Godzilla vs. Kong 2 will hit theaters on March 15, 2024, roughly three years after Godzilla vs. Kong came out. And, while it might be a long wait considering that the movie is expected to start production in Australia later this year, the spin-off show on Apple TV+ set in the same universe could arrive soon to tide audiences over. What’s more concerning is how well Godzilla vs. Kong 2 will do when it comes out. Keep in mind that Godzilla vs. Kong enjoyed a relatively competition-free slate the weekend that it premiered on March 31, 2021. Throughout its run, the movie’s biggest competition was the Mortal Kombat reboot and Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train. We can’t exactly say the same for the March lineup in 2024. As of the time of writing, the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel will face off against an untitled Pixar film, an untitled Disney live-action film, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Godzilla vs Kong 2 could serve as a palate cleanser for its more family-friendly competition. This is assuming that we don’t see other big-production action flicks by then. Fast & Furious 10 Part 2 is coming out in February 2024, but Universal Pictures could delay it by a month to March. Marvel Studios might also have something for audiences. If it is Blade, Godzilla vs. Kong 2 will have an “R” rated competition to worry about. Also, who’s to say that Deadpool 3 won’t come out in March 2024 as well? Of course, theaters will be back to normal by then. Since it doesn’t have to worry about a global pandemic, Godzilla vs. Kong 2 could enjoy an even bigger outing than the original. Having said that, we’ll have nearly two years to speculate about the crossover sequel. We have already seen Godzilla and King Kong face off against each other as both went their separate ways at the end of the film. As King Kong now reigns over Hollow Earth, leaving Godzilla to roam around Earth as its apex predator. Most likely, we’ll see the two team up again to fight against a common foe. We might even see Godzilla go to Hollow Earth to give Kong a hand as he probably isn’t going to be the only giant monster lurking around the underground kingdom.
