Given the film’s success despite the lockdowns, it was only natural that it would get a sequel. Although Warner Bros. is yet to confirm if this is the case, it appears that the fifth installment in Legendary Entertainment’s cinematic universe is already in the works. According to a Deadline report, Godzilla vs. Kong will start filming in Queensland, Australia, later this year. Unfortunately, the same report contained very little information about who will direct and star in the upcoming film. Godzilla vs. Kong was well-loved among critics and audiences alike and for a good reason - it delivered on its premise. The series’ overarching theme, which is that Godzilla and Kong, as well as the other Titans, are all forces of nature that humans can’t even hope to match up against, is fully explored. Even when humans attempt to try and create a similar monster, as was the case with the film’s Mechagodzilla, we’re still relatively helpless against them. In the end, the only thing that could stop Godzilla and Kong is themselves, as the two essentially call a truce with Kong returning to rule over Hollow Earth and Godzilla swimming back into the deepest parts of the ocean. Having said that, the sequel could explore more of the Hollow Earth. Specifically, the film could see other Titans like Godzilla and Kong appear on Earth except that they aren’t as benevolent as the two aforementioned giants. Unfortunately, it might be a while before we hear about Godzilla vs. Kong, let alone get a trailer. The good news is that Activision is cooking something up that’s related to King Kong and Godzilla for Call of Duty: Warzone. Meanwhile, fans can also look forward to the still-untitled Apple TV+ series set in the MonsterVerse.
