Unfortunately, as Sucker Punch started working on other titles, specifically Infamous, Sanzaru Games would take over and release the last ever Sly Cooper title in 2013’s Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Since then, fans have been wondering if Sony intends to back and work on a new entry to one of its most underrated exclusives. According to an insider, Sly Cooper might be making a comeback for the PS5 in the next few years.

Is Sucker Punch working on a new Sly Cooper game?

After working on Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut this year and a standalone release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, Sucker Punch Productions has a free slate at the moment. Because of how successful their Sly Cooper games were, we wouldn’t be surprised if Sucker Punch went back to it, just how Insomniac Games did with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Of course, we have no idea what Sucker Punch is working on right now, but someone with a more credible track record claims that their “normal” source has confirmed that a Sly Cooper game is in development.

— Nick (@Shpeshal_Nick) October 4, 2021 Shpeshal_Nick is the co-founder of XboxEra. As far as insider sources go, he’s pretty legit. If nothing else, it’s worth listening to what he has to say. Unfortunately, the leaker didn’t reveal anything else outside of confirming the game’s existence. He added that this is just an “update” as many of his followers reportedly message him on Twitter to ask him if he knew anything about a new Sly Cooper game. With that said, it will be interesting to see what direction the rumored Sly Cooper game is going to take. If it’s a sequel, Sucker Punch Productions and/or Sanzaru Games are both available right now. But, if it’s a remake, Sony’s newly acquired studio, Bluepoint Games, is the best there is. However, we’re not convinced that it’s a remake or remaster. Bluepoint confirmed during its Sony acquisition that it’s working on an original game right now, so it wouldn’t make sense for Bluepoint to release a Sly Cooper remake. Either way, we’re just glad that there are talks of a new Sly Cooper game. Eight years is far too long not to see everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic master thief in action. Here’s hoping that Sony confirms (or denies) the rumors soon enough.
