The game’s developers, 4A Games, have revealed just what kind of next-gen enhancements they plan on adding to Metro Exodus, so that the game can take better advantage of the more powerful hardware of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, as well as PCs. Metro Exodus serves as the third title in the Metro video game franchise. It is preceded by Metro: Last Light and Metro 2033. The game picks right up where Metro: Last Light left off.

Metro Exodus Next-Gen Enhancements Details

One of the biggest features of Metro Exodus was ray tracing. The game was one of the first few titles on the PC to take advantage of this technology and it gave gamers a glimpse of the kind of graphics that gamers should expect from next-gen titles going forward. With the latest update, this feature will be made available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X versions of the game. Perhaps more importantly, the developers claim that the game will still run at 4K resolution, at a smooth 60 frames per second. This is despite the ray-tracing feature being turned on. Not to mention, both consoles’ faster SSD storage drives means that Metro Exodus will load significantly faster once the new update arrives. Other improvements include better support for each console’s respective controllers, as well as a field of view slider, among other things. Of course, while the focus was mostly on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions of Metro Exodus, the developers did not forget about the PC version. This is because an improved version named “Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition” will also make its way to the PC. This new game will come free for existing owners. It will include special ray tracing details. Expect this to result in sharper-looking graphics for Metro Exodus on the PC.

4A Games Are Doing Metro Fans Right

It’s no secret that those who own a next-gen console are left wanting for more. True, their consoles have significantly more powerful hardware. But, at the same time, it’s also true that there are very few games capable of taking advantage of the added grunt. Thankfully, more and more developers are starting to rework their games with next-gen consoles in mind. In this particular case, the number of changes that 4A Games plans on adding to support next-gen consoles is surprising, to say the least. This is especially since they’re not only promising ray tracing with better graphics. They’re guaranteeing that the improved visual fidelity will not come at the expense of lower framerates. With that said, we can’t exactly say for certain just how big of an improvement these enhancements will make on the graphics and performance of Metro Exodus across all three platforms. Can they deliver on their promise of 4K resolution and 60 framerates per second with ray tracing? That’s something we’ll have to wait for later this year to find. For now, we can simply take delight in the fact that this is a free update for current owners of the game.
