Sony and San Diego Studio made headlines last year when Sony confirmed that the exclusive baseball sim franchise was headed to the Xbox Game Pass at launch. The first MLB The Show came out in 2006 for the PS2 and PSP only. Since then, every annual iteration has made its way exclusively to PlayStation consoles. But, Sony is opening up MLB The Show to other consoles, with Nintendo the latest to join the party. Sony revealed details about MLB The Show 22 in an official PlayStation blog post. On top of the multiplatform release, Sony also unveiled MLB The Show 22’s cover star, star pitcher Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels. The post also had good news for Switch owners looking to buy MLB The Show 22. The Switch version will feature both cross-play and cross-progression support across all platforms with pricing that matches the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch owners won’t get everything from MLB The Show 22. Because of the portable console’s hardware limitations, Sony had to cut the Stadium Creator out of the Switch version of MLB The Show 22. In a separate announcement, Microsoft confirmed that MLB The Show 22 will be on Xbox Game Pass on Day One. It’s nice to see Microsoft and Sony “working together” these days. The past month has been filled with headlines about how Sony will respond to Microsoft’s latest moves. In particular, rumors about Sony’s Project Spartacus have ramped up. So far, Sony has remained quiet about its plans for an Xbox Game Pass competitor, with the upcoming State of Play expected to focus on Gran Turismo 7 ahead of its March 4 release. But, if it’s any consolation, Sony did just acquire Bungie with plans to make similarly monumental acquisitions soon.
