Yes. You read that right. Ubisoft is sitting on multiple unannounced Assassin’s Creed games on top of Mirage and Infinity. The aforementioned titled projects represent a fork in the road for the franchise. The former is reportedly set in Baghdad and will bring the series back to its stealth roots with a young Basim, one of the antagonists of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, as the lead. Meanwhile, the latter is believed to be a Fortnite-like game that will serve as a central hub for other future installments. It’s not clear what Ubisoft intends to do to Assassin’s Creed going forward, but it’s nice to see that it’s trying to reinvent the aging franchise. With that said, Tom Henderson wrote on Try Hard Games that fans will get details about more than just Mirage and Infinity at Ubisoft Forward this weekend. A few hours later, Jason Schreier corroborated the report, legitimizing the claims. Interestingly enough, sites such as PC Gamer couldn’t confirm that they’d come across the same info in a preview of the event.
The first of the upcoming mystery Assassin’s Creed projects is Project Red, which is going to take place in Japan. According to the report, one of the early concept arts features a female samurai. This implies that players can choose between male and female characters again. As for the second one, Project Hexe, it’s said to take place in 16th-century Europe when witch hunts were prevalent. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and will be the “darkest Assassin’s Creed game yet.” Finally, two more Assassin’s Creed games will also be announced: Project Jade and Project Nexus, as well as one more DLC content for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It appears that Ubisoft wants to see if the same tactic it used on the Tom Clancy series will work with Assassin’s Creed. It’s worth remembering that Ubisoft previously blitzed the market with several Tom Clancy spin-offs only to dial back in recent years. It will be interesting to see if this move will pay off for Assassin’s Creed or not. If nothing else, it should guarantee that Assassin’s Creed fans won’t have to wait for years in between games for a new experience.
