What is most surprising about this is that Village continues to rack up sales despite having problems on the PC.

Why is a Resident Evil Village PC performance fix necessary?

Denuvo is a games protection and anti-piracy technology used by developers to prevent their games from being tampered with and pirated on the PC. While the intention of Denuvo is all well and good as it protects studios and their investments, it often comes at the expense of poor performance. The negative impact on performance can vary from game to game and person to person. However, in the case of Resident Evil Village, the vast majority seem to agree that the anti-piracy measure is causing the game to freeze or stutter if not crash entirely. This might have something to do with the fact that it has taken “pirates” months to release a cracked version of Resident Evil Village. After Village was released on May 7, 2021, it wasn’t until this past weekend, sometime between July 9 and 11, that the cracked version of the game became available and was uploaded online to piracy depositories and torrents. The release makes Village available for free to everyone. Not only that, but it improves the performance of the game on the PC as well. In a way, this isn’t necessarily a direct fix. Rather, it’s more of a removal of the software that’s causing so many PC users problems when running Village.

Will Capcom release a Denuvo-free version of Resident Evil Village?

It’s not unusual for companies to release Denuvo-free versions of their PC games some time post-launch. However, for Capcom, this update doesn’t come early on in a game’s cycle. Most of the time, Capcom removes Denuvo in an update that’s applied to the game once it starts releasing DLC packs. In the case of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the update probably didn’t come until December 12, 2017, nearly a full year after the game was released in January 2017. Even if Capcom can release an update to remove Denuvo from Resident Evil Village, we don’t think this will happen soon. But, there is a silver lining to all of this: if the update comes with the first DLC content for Village, it’s only a matter of time before that happens. Capcom confirmed back in June that Resident Evil Village DLCs are in the works “due to popular demand”. If nothing else, we should be happy that the PC port of Resident Evil Village isn’t as bad as these PC ports. Not to mention, these Resident Evil Village mods can help make Village perform and look better on your PC. Considering that Village continues to find success in terms of sales, we wouldn’t be surprised if Capcom opts not to release a Denuvo-free version of Village until much, much, much, later on in the game’s life cycle.
