Now, he’s made it official. In a recent interview on Real Time With Bill Hamer, while promoting his novel based on his own movie, Once Upon a Time … In Hollywood, Tarantino confirmed that he will resign after his next film.
Tarantino Plans to Quit At The Peak Of His Career
When asked why he wanted to retire, Tarantino explained that “directors do not get better”, citing other filmmakers like Don Siegel. He explained that, had Siegel retired earlier, he would have been able to walk away from the industry with a more memorable career. Tarantino added that Siegel should have retired after Escape from Alcatraz, which premiered in 1979. After Escape from Alcatraz, Siegel would go on to direct Rough Cut and Jinxed! in 1980 and 1982, respectively, both of which were not well-received. Siegel was even fired while filming the former. As for Tarantino, his films have all been characterized by four things: action, similar themes, lengthy monologues and violence. What makes Tarantino’s works unique is that, while all of them share some things in common, each one still represents his own distinct filmmaking style. Maher, who admitted that he is a huge fan of Tarantino, tried to make the filmmaker reconsider his decision to retire. However, the popular director seemed firm in his decision. Considering that Tarantino wants to go out with a bang, or so to speak, we can expect his tenth film to be something big. Among their many other features, Tarantino is particularly known for his films ending on a high note. His career could follow the same trajectory. Unfortunately, we have no idea what Tarantino’s next film will be. Considering that his plans have always been shrouded in mystery, it probably won’t be until the trailer premieres that we’ll get a chance to know more of Tarantino’s last project. Either way, one thing that’s almost guaranteed is for Tarantino to save his best for last.
