News of a Black Superman reboot first broke out last year with former Superman, Henry Cavill, sharing his excitement. Since then, we’ve heard very little about the new Men of Steel - until now. According to Jeff Sneider, Ta-Nehisi Coates is preparing to turn in a draft of his screenplay for Superman to Warner Bros.

— Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) April 11, 2022 The news comes at a time when Warner Bros. DC properties are at an all-time high. After flirting with the possibility of re-launching Zack Snyder’s original plans for the DCEU last year, Warner Bros.’s non-DCEU movie, The Batman, was both a critical and commercial success, pulling in nearly $750 million at the global box office. The positive news appears to have carried over to future DC projects like the Penguin spin-off and Batgirl for HBO Max as well as Te-Nehisi Coates’ Black Superman. In addition to Te-Nehisi Coates’ Black Superman., J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot will produce a Val-Zod film involving Michael B. Jordan. In the comic books, Val-Zod is a Kryptonian who grew up a pacifist and feared going outside let alone use his powers. Val-Zol later took up the mantle of Earth 2’s Superman following the death of his universe’s Kal-El as well as Wonder Woman and Batman. Unfortunately, both Superman projects do not have a release date. For now, DCEU fans will have to make do with Warner Bros.’s current slate of upcoming films such as Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which will premiere on October 21 and December 16, respectively.
