Fast forward to today and EA has backtracked on its earlier statement. As a matter of fact, the Dead Space remake won’t just be a single-player game, it won’t even have microtransactions at all.
Motive Studios’ Dead Space remake is shaping up to be an entirely different monster
In recent years EA has made significant strides attempting to improve its public image. Of course, old habits die hard. Lest we forget, EA’s decision to lock the next-gen versions of FIFA 22 and Madden NFL 22 behind the more expensive editions of each respective sports simulator title. However, with the Dead Space remake, it looks like EA is taking a small but noteworthy step towards freeing games from microtransactions. EA’s senior producer Phil Ducharme confirmed this in an interview with IGN. “We’re looking at what can be taken and reinjected into the first game from a future standpoint. We’re also learning from mistakes such as microtransactions, which we will not have, for instance, in our game,” was what Ducharme had to say about the Dead Space remake. The Dead Space series is widely considered one of the best horror games of all time. The original trilogy remains just as popular and relevant today, but EA’s earlier stance meant that the single-player sci-fi horror title had no place in the company’s plans. Following the release of 2013’s Dead Space 3, audiences would hear virtually zero news about a fourth title. It wasn’t until earlier this year that leaks and rumors about a new Dead Space game started appearing. True enough, at EA Play Live 2021, EA announced the Dead Space remake. Even though the Dead Space remake is not a sequel, fans are still excited at the prospect of seeing all the grotesque alien creatures in their next-gen glory. Speaking of next-gen, EA intends to take full advantage of the power of the Xbox Series S/X and the PS5. The Dead Space remake will not have loading screens and will be built using the Frostbite engine.
